OnLive presentation

Cloud computing seems to be the buzzword of the moment, so naturally there are several companies developing systems for this new type of data distribution. so far we have OnLive, Gai Kai, and OTOY. Here is a presentation for OnLive. If this sevice really is successful it will completely reshape Videogames and how they are made.

Light Propagation Volumes in CryEngine 3

Great article at geek3d.com referencing the cryengine presentation from Siggraph 2009. Seems like the technique is somewhat similar to pre computed radiance transfer without the pre computation ;) It really looks like its doing alot with just calculating one bounce. Source code provided in the white papers.

New UDK update

New update for the Unreal Development Kit. Some really cool stuff like the "Interactive foilage actor" and "Material vertex shader control" Vertex offsets in shader, based of vert weights is a great way to simulate physics on the cheap . This also ties into wind actors placed int hte level...pretty sweet.

SSAO available through graphics drivers

You can turn on Ambient Occlusion (screen space) with the nvidia driver 185 and up. Click on advanced tab to reveal the manage 3d settings.
